Advice: cash as a back up
How do you pay if there is a power outage or if online banking is not available? The Dutch Social Consultation on Payment Transactions* (MOB) has issued advice on this. Part of this is the recommendation to keep cash as a back up, with a target amount of 70 euros per adult and 30 euros per child.
The MOB indicates that it is sensible to build up the total amount per household in the coming months. Via money that is already available, via change received or withdrawals from the ATM. There is no urgency for direct cash withdrawals.
In the Netherlands, De Nederlandsche Bank and Geldmaat and its partners have sufficient money available to provide everyone with cash. Both for normal withdrawals of notes and coins and for additional needs as a result of the advice issued.

The MOB is a platform within DNB, in which numerous social organisations are represented.
